We are pleased to be offering two different foundation courses in 2026.
The ACPTMD will now be providing a one-day and a two-day foundation course. Both courses are suitable for those with no experience in TMDs, but the two-day course will now allow attendees to be taught an expanded curriculum as well as go into the complexity of assessing and treating TMDs in greater depth. Both courses will be a hybrid format and will provide access to the same pre-course virtual modules.
Attendees will be expected to view the pre-course virtual material prior to attending the face-to-face components of the courses. Hugo is an Advanced Physiotherapist Practitioner in the Maxillofacial Department at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, London. Alongside his NHS role, he also provides specialist care in the private sector as a MD and Orofacial Pain Physiotherapist. As one of the ACPTMD tutors, Hugo has broad experience in teaching and mentoring both in the UK and internationally.

TUTOR: Alex Weden BScEcon, BScPhys, MSc (Manual Therapy)
Alex is a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in Craniomandibular Disorders. Alex works full-time for the Maxillofacial service at Nottingham University Hospitals treating idiopathic and post operative TMDs. Alex has been one of our tutors for the past 5 years. He is also one of the co-authors of the 2024 Royal College of Surgeons guidelines on the management of TMDs as well as author of a number of published studies exploring physiotherapy for the management of TMDs.

Tutor: Helen Cowgill Bsc(hons) , MMACP, MAACP
Helen Cowgill was one of the original founding members of ACPTMD. Helen is highly specialised with over 20 years’ experience and has completed extensive training in the management of TMD within the UK and Internationally. She has studied under and worked with some of the world’s most recognised professionals in this speciality including Mariano Rocabado. Helen works within the private sector and NHS where Helen assisted setting up the first pioneering and unique TMJ MDT Clinic in 2009 within the UK. She is the Clinical Director of TMJ Physio which is a private practice Clinic dedicated to patients suffering with TMD and Orofacial Pain. Helen is passionate about TMJ treatment and is regularly invited to deliver lectures Nationally and Internationally on the subject, presents at professional Conferences regarding TMD and has had numerous publications in highly regarded peer reviewed Journals. Helen has also authored the TMJ Chapter in the Physiotherapy book Musculoskeletal Examination and Assessment.
